EMP has played a leading role in private equity in Central and Eastern Europe since 1999 as the Principle Advisor to a $550 million fund targeting the EU ascension countries of Europe, the AIG Emerging Europe Infrastructure Fund ("Fund I"). Today EMP is active in Europe through Abris Capital Partners Limited
EMP conceived and structured the fund to capitalize on the convergence of the former communist block with the EU. We have overseen the investment in 11 companies through Fund I, and organized two investments in Europe totaling $61 million outside the Fund.
In mid-2005 EMP Europe, EMP's operating subsidiary in the UK, was sold to its senior management. That team continues to manage the day to day operations of Europe I, while EMP Global remains the Principle Advisor to the Fund. The follow on fund to Fund I, the Emerging Europe Convergence Fund II, is a €650 million fund which closed in late 2005. This fund is managed by EMP Europe Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mid Europa Partners, a new entity formed by EMP Europe's former senior management.
EMP continues to be directly active in the private equity markets of developing Europe, and to explore new opportunities there.
